Meconed approached us with the goal of building a platform to simplify sharing medical presentations from conferences. The app needed to allow professionals to upload, tag, and share presentations, while providing an intuitive interface for finding relevant content.

Meconed is a medical education startup from Belgium that wanted to make medical knowledge-sharing easier.
The Meconed aimed to ease sharing presentations from conferences, so all of them are safely stored in one place. In the client’s opinion, people needed one place where they could easily find all presentations and recordings and be able to share them with colleagues. As there are thousands of such documents, they wanted to offer easy filtering of those.

To fulfill the goal, Meconed wanted us to build a web app that gathers medical professionals (they need to create a free account) and allows them to upload or record presentations based on the one they had at a medical conference. The uploaded or recorded presentation should be easily shareable.
When uploading presentations, professionals should be able to add their unique code, assign the conference on which the presentation took place and add short description and tags that indicate the area of expertise (e.g. general med., paediatrics, cardiology etc.).
Moderators should also review submitted presentations to ensure that all required information is correct.
Co-founders needed to make it possible for people to find Meconed presentations directly from Google, so we had to take care of Search Engine Optimisation. Presentations can be public or private. In the latter case, they should log in to access the recording and author information; however, guests should have seen data like description or conference name.
The ultimate challenge was presentation recording, as we had to ensure it would work smoothly on any device and web browser.
We also had to take care of formatting the presentations. When people upload their .psd or .pptx files, those should be converted into single images displayed during the presentation recording. We used an external tool for this purpose that the client recommended.
The client required the app to be fast-loading, and as AWS Amplify was chosen, it was a challenge to deal with performance issues in the case of no visits during a significant time.

Working on this project, I really felt I was doing something beneficial for every one of us.
We built a responsive web application that was perfectly adjusted to mobile devices. The responsive web design approach allows building one web app that looks perfect on any device: desktop, tablet and mobile.
We developed the front-end of the app using react.js. It’s the best choice for quickly-loading and SEO-optimised applications. For the backend, we used AWS Amplify as it allows us to develop what was planned and reduce costs simultaneously.
Hand in hand with Meconed, we developed a fully-featured app that fulfils our client’s needs.
Meconed came to us with an idea and basic assumptions about how the app should look. They provided us with designs, which were modified and adjusted when the project lasted. Before we handed over the app to the client, we ensured it worked as planned, thanks to Quality Assurance testing.
We cooperated based on bi-weekly meetings, which were highly productive. As the client had a perfect understanding of the industry, they knew exactly what they needed to build. Despite this fact, they were open to our suggestions and modifications.
We have started building the client’s platform based on their insights – we’ve devised features that allow our users to upload their presentations and attach their recordings into each slide. Additionally, we’ve developed custom solutions to ensure the security and privacy of our site content.
